Kathleen Bienkowski, Associate Vice President for Research Administration Services

Kathleen oversees the operation of Emory’s Research Administration Services. Kathleen graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Psychology and studied Industrial/Organizational Psychology at the Illinois Institute of Technology. She has twenty-six years of experience in global professional services, with specific experience in developing and leading multi-function shared service centers.

Denise Ehlen

Denise Ehlen, Director of Operations/Projects

Denise oversees operations and special projects for Central Operations in Emory’s Research Administration Services. Denise possesses over twenty years of experience in pre- and post-award research administration as well as business incubation and outreach. Prior to joining Emory, Denise assumed a variety of leadership roles including Director for Business Outreach, Executive Director of the Technology Park/Incubation Services, and Director of Research and Sponsored Programs at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Denise graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with degrees in political science and education/mentoring. She also possesses professional certificates in social entrepreneurship (USASBE), technology transfer (WKI), and business coaching (Growth Wheel).

Amanda Exum

Amanda Riley, Project Manager/Operations Support

Amanda joined Emory in April 2013 in the Office of Grants and Contracts as a Sr. Accountant with primary responsibility for preparing invoices and financial reports. She transferred to the Cancer & Imaging RAS in June 2014 to manage the Radiation Oncology portfolio prior to joining RAS Central Operations in October 2015 on the PMS Subaccount Transition Project. In March 2017, she transitioned into the Project Manager/Operations Support position, where she manages and executes special projects and provides operations support related to pre- and post-award research administration operations.

 Matthew Durrance

Matthew Durrance, Senior Project Support Specialist

Matthew Durrance joined Emory in June 2015. As a Senior Project Support Specialist in RAS Central Operations, he spearheads management reporting and data analysis, assists in developing and tracking key performance indicators, and supports continuous improvement and ongoing implementations. Matthew previously worked in budgeting and evaluation at the State of Georgia, where he oversaw budgets for state agencies, including the Departments of Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Revenue, and portions of the University System of Georgia. He holds a M.P.P. in Public Finance from Georgia State University, a M.T.S. from Emory University, and a B.A. from Southwestern University.
