Kathleen Bienkowski, Associate Vice President for Research Administration Services

Kathleen oversees the operation of Emory’s Research Administration Services. Kathleen graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Psychology and studied Industrial/Organizational Psychology at the Illinois Institute of Technology. She has twenty-six years of experience in global professional services, with specific experience in developing and leading multi-function shared service centers.

Denise Ehlen, Director of Operations/Projects

Denise oversees operations and special projects for Central Operations in Emory’s Research Administration Services. Denise possesses over twenty years of experience in pre- and post-award research administration as well as business incubation and outreach. Prior to joining Emory, Denise assumed a variety of leadership roles including Director for Business Outreach, Executive Director of the Technology Park/Incubation Services, and Director of Research and Sponsored Programs at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Denise graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with degrees in political science and education/mentoring. She also possesses professional certificates in social entrepreneurship (USASBE), technology transfer (WKI), and business coaching (Growth Wheel).
Amanda Riley, Assistant Director

Amanda supports the continued development of Research Administration Services (RAS) Operations. Her primary responsibilities include supporting the Director and Associate Vice President (AVP) by leading special projects to build and maintain the RAS operating model and managing RAS Central’s internal operations. Amanda possess nine years of post-award research administration experience, nearly five of which have been acquired at Emory. Amanda joined Emory in April 2013 in the Office of Grants and Contracts (now Finance, Grants and Contracts). Since, she has held positions in the Cancer & Imaging RAS and RAS Operations. Amanda graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in finance.
Kesley Tyson, Project Manager/Operations Support Specialist

Kesley joined Emory in October 2015 in the Department of Pediatrics as the clinical trials start-up and compliance coordinator and has since transitioned into RAS Operations as the project manager/operations support specialist. She provides operation support to the Research Administration Service Central/Operations team and coordinates special projects. Kesley possesses over 8 years of clinical research experience, holds a M.S. in Regulatory Affairs for Drugs, Biologics, and Medical Devices from Northeastern University and a B.S. in Health Sciences from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. She also holds certification as a certified clinical research professional.
Kim Caroline, Training Specialist

Working closely with the Director and RAS stakeholders, Kim leads RAS training initiatives. She plans, organizes, and develops training curricula, materials, and programs to meet specific training needs. Kim analyzes learning needs and collaborates with RAS subject matter experts (SMEs), to develop course content for both computer-based training and instructor led courses. Kim has over 18 years of research administration experience. She joined Emory in 2000, in the Office of Sponsored Programs. Since then, she has held pre- and post-award positions at Emory College, School of Medicine and School of Public Health. Kim graduated from Arizona State University, with degrees in English and Art History and has been a Certified Research Administrator since 2007.
